Explanation: Should NZ ban plastic straws

Did you know that all plastic straws are harming sea animals? Well, in my opinion we should ban all plastic straws because they cause pollution and all this from plastic straws, Do we want to hurt these harmless animals?

One reason I think plastic straws should be banned is that they might damage sea animal's digestive system. 500 million plastic straws get thrown away helplessly and kill turtles and other sea life. Because of this, it kills over 100,000 marine life creatures in the sea just because of plastic straws.

My second reason for banning plastic straws is because it has chemicals in it and those chemicals are most likely to harm sea animals (marine life). Plastic straws also break down into microplastic (Small plastics) is also found on land and seagulls eat any kind of garbage and microplastic is one of them, if they eat it they are most likely to pass from there digestive system blockage or eating too much microplastic. All of this is letting us down and those poor little sea creatures eating your rubbish are dying so please don’t throw your rubbish away, This is horrible, this is unbelievable, This is OUTRAGEOUS you don't want that to happen right?

Well, plastic straws could be useful for a good drink without spilling it on you, it would be great if you would be able to water ski but it wouldn’t be ok if you water ski on dead fish. You would be dying to water ski or do anything in water but you can’t because you'll see floating fish EVERYWHERE

Animals are dying, I do not want that to happen and also people are way too lazy to think about life instead they just make things difficult and don’t pick up their plastic straws

Yuri's Diary by Jayden and Jonathan

Bust, Yuri Gagarin, First Man In Space

Vostok 1 was starting to move and I felt nervous, scared and very excited to blast off into unknown. My chair was shaking. I heard over the radio, “ready for blast off!” I shouted back “YES SIR!” I really was proud to be a part of the Soviet Union.

I slowly opened my eyes that had been shut tight the whole way up and looked out of the window in front of me. I saw the clouds, oceans and land that made up earth. It was an incredible sight. I still can’t believe no one else has seen this picture!

The rockets boosters detached from the Vostok 1. Time for landing was getting closer,. It got intense and the rocket was falling down quickly. My job was to survive this mission so I had to pull the lever for the re-entry, also known as the escape lever. As my parachute opened I heard a soviet voice say “Hello are you there?” Our conversation went something like this:
“Hello?”

“Thank goodness!” This was followed by loud cheers as I was the first man to orbit the earth and return safely.

This week we read about Yuri Gagarin, the first man to orbit the earth. To show our understanding of the story Jonathan and I wrote Yuri Gagarin's diary entry for the 13th April 1961, the day after he survived the first manned mission to space.

Collage

Last week we went to camp and it was really fun. When we came back we were exhausted and tired but then the next week we thought of having a camp celebration but first we made thank you letters for all the teachers who went to camp with us. One of the camp celebration were a collage on what we did in camp.

World War 1 Transport

This week Marieta, Mele, Pua and I learnt about Life on the Transport Ship for World War 1. Together we all worked collaboratively to find information about the Transport Ship. In World War 1 there was a Transport Ship that took the enlisted people from New Zealand to Egypt ( which was there base ). I learnt that over 550 nurse died at war. It took about 6 weeks for the soldiers to get to Egypt. Each one of us received different roles to do. While Mele and Marieta were writing the 5 w's and H, Pua and I were finding images and information about the Soldiers. We added the source links for the sites and images we used. Each group was to present their shared DLO's, which showed others that we were gaining your researching skills.
